Description

The principal aim of study was to determine how much development could be accommodated throughout the campus, and to establish where and hoe this should be sited at the Bloomington Campus, this problem is complicated by the strong desire to build within the increasing congested campus core despite the abundance of university owned land nearby. Because there were no guidelines directing campus growth, the pressure to expand at the center potentially threatened very qualities that made the campus so attractive to faculty and students.

In order to guide future development, it was crucial to make the distinction between land that was potentially available for development and land that would remain as open space.

The Master Framework Plan is at one scale a series of site-specific design and planning principles. At the micro scale, it provided detailed studies and guidelines for primary redevelopment sites. The plan also examines the transportation and parking issues, utilities and infrastructure.
